Wooohooo!!! Check what a return to profitability can do for Sun shares:
How’s that for an overnight jump in price? If all goes well, and the market and analysts like the Intel/Sun agreement, we could be seeing $10 a share in no time.
I received a comment the other day from James McGovern pointing me to a link on his blog where he has a list of outstanding questions. I’ve taken the time to do a bit of research (it is Christmas after all so things are a bit quieter) and this is what I’ve found:
Solaris 10 Just Got Better
Solaris 10 11/06 is available - well almost. The final build has been confirmed, the press got to hear about it two days ago, and the downloads will be available sometime on 11 December 2006.
So what’s so special about Solaris 10 11/06, well let me highlight some of the cool new features:
I was a little surprised and saddened to read that DARPA has decided to pump US$250m into Cray and US$244m in IBM for them to work on DARPA’s next high performance computing initiative - their “Petascale” program.
There was a lot of bidding and vying for the investment and it came down to 3 final contenders [...]
Java is Now Open Source
After a lot speculation and demands from the public, today Sun Microsystems will announce the release of ALL of the key Java implementations - Java Standard Edition (J2SE: traditionally run on desktops), Java Micro Edition (J2ME: traditionally run on phones and embedded devices) and Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE: traditionally run in business infrastructure) - using [...]
More Project Blackbox
The more I read about it, the more I like the idea of Project Blackbox.
Sun Back In Supercomputers
Sun has always been in the supercomputers list, but never particularily high up. I think this is mainly due to the historical cost of Sun kit, and because those that did have Sun powered supercomputers, didn’t want to advertise the fact (I certainly wouldn’t want my easily swappable and expensive CPU and memory boards knicked [...]
The Most Secure OS in the World
Looks like that’ll be Solaris again.
The Solaris 10 OS is currently being evaluated for Common Criteria LSPP at EAL 4+ for the Controlled Access Protection Profile (CAPP) and Role-Based Access Control Protection Profile (RBACPP) at EAL 4+. In addition, Solaris 10 11/06 OS with Solaris Trusted Extensions is being evaluated for the LSPP Protection [...]
Sun Rocked Last Quarter
I know this is a bit late, but I’ve been on holiday. I was very happy to see Sun is actually finally turning things around, and the world is taking note. Check out these headlines:
Sun’s server sales soar, while Dell bores in Q2 — The Register, 8/23
Sun Overtakes Dell In Worldwide Sever Revenue [...]
Wooohoooo… it looks like Sun Microsystems is getting back on track now and back into the driving seat that it rightly deserves. Sun still made a loss, but only under GAAP, which hid the revenue growth of 29%… yes 29%!!!. If Sun keep this up, Mike Lehman’s promise of sustained profitability next year is almost a dead cert.
