I don’t think there’s much to say about this, other than I hope Sun doesn’t Cobalt-ize MySQL. Who knows, if Sun plays their cards right, we may finally have a really competitor for Oracle, and a huge cash cow for Sun. Maybe this will send Sun’s shares in the right direction.

Check it out… Dell to Offer Solaris Subscriptions on Select Dell PowerEdge Servers
Wow!!! I didn’t see this one coming. Now if this isn’t a sign of the demand and quality of Solaris, I don’t know what is. First IBM, and now Dell. Who’s next?

I think NetApp may be finding themselves in a bit of a tough spot if they’re not careful. As you may know, they have filed a lawsuit against Sun claiming ZFS infringes on their patents.
Jonathan Schwartz, being a reasonable man, got in contact with Dave Hitz of NetApps to discuss how they could settle [...]

You’ve got to love the joke that is software patents and the associated trolling that has come of late. As you may have heard by now, NetApp have filed a suit claiming Sun are infringing on some of their patents with ZFS.
Dave Hitz of NetApp details their side of things on his blog.

I first heard about this on Slashdot and really didn’t believe it. I can now however confirm that this is indeed true. I received my postcard in the post yesterday. This is was probably one of the best tech magazines I’ve ever subscribed to. I’m going to miss getting my monthly hardcore tech [...]

For some reason, people seem to think [...]

As of next week, one of the most actively traded shares on the Nasdaq, will have a new ticker symbol. Sun Microsystems will change it’s ticker symbol from SUNW to JAVA.
To quote Jonathan Schwartz…
… SUNW represents the past, and its not without a nostalgic nod that we’ve decided to look ahead.
JAVA is a technology whose [...]

Today…
IBM and Sun announced that IBM will distribute the Solaris operating system (OS) and Solaris Subscriptions for select x86-based IBM System x servers and Blade Center servers.
Now that’s got to be an indication of how good Solaris 10 is, and how much demand it’s getting now. This agreement has just effectively opened up Sun’s [...]

Woohooo!!! Sun Microsystems have beaten all expectations and posted a profit for their 3rd successive quarter, and posted their first annual profit since 2001.
From the graph of the day’s trading (courtesy of Google), you can see not many people actually thought Sun would do it…

See how the share price took a dive in the first [...]

ZDNET and CNET (Just paraphrasing the ZDNET article) are both reporting that apparently Google’s security team have discovered some very critical flaws in the Java Run Time Environment (JRE) that threatens security on pretty much anything that runs Java.
Hmmm, I have my reservations about this claim. Several things just don’t sit right with me. [...]
